Once upon a time a region's inhabitants learned to tan Deer Skin from native Americans. Many high quality Deer Leather products were produced and many leather craftsman gathered in this area in search of high quality Deer Leather. In 1800’s this area was named Gloversville and the technology of British Glove company “Dents” was brought to this area. Gloversville and Johnstown, the neighbouring town, became bases for the US glove manufacturing industry with more than 200 manufacturers. In 1893, glove craftsman, Elmer, emigrated to Gloversville to established his own company: “Elmer & Sons”. Elmer & Sons became one of the most successful glove companies in the United States as they kept producing high quality gloves.
